Rose Murphy moved from a passionate interest in several Irish women lured by the American West into her focus on Ella Young. Murphy has taught Irish literature at Sonoma State University and English at Santa Rosa Junior College.
Several of her Irish-related articles, travel pieces and editorials have been published in. U.S. newspapers and periodicals. A member of the American Conference of Irish Studies, she has presented papers, with a focus on Irish women, at the organization’s annual meetings. She has taught Irish literature and history, in community classes, for more than 10 years in her hometown of Sonoma, California. She also stages annual performances of works by Irish playwrights. Her own Irish roots go back to Counties Cork and Kerry; she travels frequently to Ireland.
